A joyful newborn photoshoot at home | Newborn Family Photographer Bath UK

This gorgeously relaxed and unposed newborn family photo shoot near Bath UK was my last newborn family photography session before we went into lockdown; which makes it all the more poignant. I could not have foreseen what was about to hit us when we were all joyfully hanging out on this chilly but sunny early March weekend, capturing joyful moments of this beautiful family and their newest arrival.

I met Alice at a toddler group we both go to in Bath and was immediately drawn to her warmth and energy and abundant passion for babies, small children and motherhood. She inspired me, at a time when I was feeling less than enthusiastic, about motherhood at that point! She and her husband have two boys, a pre-schooler and toddler and it wasn’t long before I saw her again a few months later and she was expecting her third boy!

Once the baby arrived, she invited me to her beautiful home just outside Bath that they are renovating (I was swooning over her paint colour choices!) to photograph their family with their newest arrival. I adore newborn sessions and this newborn photo shoot did not disappoint. The family were so relaxed in front of the camera and went about their normal Sunday morning routine while I chatted to them and documented with my camera as I went. The result was a true documentary representation of their real, normal life as a now family of five.

The photo shoot began in their garden which looked out onto the rolling hills of Somerset. The sky was blue and the sun was shining and we kicked a football around and jumped on the trampoline. It was joy-filled normal-ness at it’s best. We then ventured inside for a second (maybe third!) breakfast for the two older boys and some seriously cute cuddles and kisses with the 10 day old new baby boy. These made for some truly lovely unposed portraits. Even the little toddler had a go at holding his new baby brother! It was then off to the rest of house for some playing and snuggling / jumping and on the bed. As always, time ran away from me and before I knew it, it was time to say good bye to this vibrant and beautiful family.

I love what I do. Meeting new families, each with their own unique vibe, personality and story to tell can be nerve-wracking but also unbelievably fun. I’m always reminded, by the wonderfully free and creative genre I choose to use, which is documentary, that just by simply being there with my camera is enough. Things are always happening in front of you, just by the nature that things are always happening in life, you don’t have to complicate the situation. All you need is your eye and camera and a beautiful family like this.

Thank you Alice, for inviting me into your beautiful colourful home and allowing me to capture the most incredibly real, honest, beautiful and mesmerising moments of you and your family. It was such a privilege capturing these joyous moments of you all.
